Robbie Fisher grew to adulthood at Milwaukie, Oregon. She had two sons with her first husband, Richard Carl "Dick" Smith, a foundry worker, whom she married at Vancouver, Washington, on February 20, 1970. In 1974 the couple moved to Clearwater, Florida, where they were divorced. Robbie and her second husband, Howard Wolfred Kartman, whom she married at Marianna, Florida, on April 12, 1981, lived in Marianna, Florida, and Mamou, Louisiana. Howard died from injuries he suffered in an industrial accident while working for the CONOCO Corporation. Later Robbie lived briefly in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Spokane, Washington, but in 1986 she returned to Oregon and went to work for Oregon Industries for the Blind in Portland as a product assembler. Robbie and her domestic partner, Sheila Mae Andrix, remained together from February 10, 1996, until Robbie's death ten years later, at 58.
