Gary M. Walden, 47, of Columbia died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, at University Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Home. The memorial service offered by Columbia Friends Meeting (Quakers) will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Unity Center of Columbia, 1600 W. Broadway.

Gary was born Oct. 23, 1957, in Columbia to Fred M. and Vernice Pauley Walden. He was a member and very active with the Columbia Friends Meeting. Art was very important to him, and he enjoyed painting and writing. He did fundraising activities for various charitable organizations, particularly American Diabetes Association and the annual CROP Walk.

Survivors include his mother, Vernice Walden of Columbia, and aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents, Robert and Edna Pauley and Tom and Allene Walden.
