Jesse Stanley was born the 19th of 1st mo 1771, a son of Elijah and Hannah (Mills) Stanley. He married by bond dated 28 Nov 1793 in Guilford Co., NC, Huldah Coffin, daughter of Barnabas and Phebe (Marshall) Coffin. Both were disowned by Deep River Friends Meeting in Guilford County for their offense, but they condemned their misconduct the following year and were readmitted to the fold. About 1814 they left North Carolina for the Lick Creek Friends meeting in Indiana. When the Hicksite separation came in 1828, both were disowned at Lick Creek for siding with the Hicksites, but remained members at Blue River Hicksite Friends Meeting, occupying the positions of elder and overseer. Jesse's death occurred the 8th of 5th mo 1843. Jesse and Huldah were the parents of nine children: Samuel, Phebe, Jesse, Elijah, Huldah, Barnabas C, Mary, Abel C and Rhoda C.
