Enlisted in the 103rd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Aug. 5, 1862, at Brighton Twp., Lorain County OH, for a term of 3 years. Occupation: Blacksmith. Mustered into Company F as a Private, he was wounded June 19, 1864 near Marietta Georgia near Noyes Creek. He died in a hospital at Knoxville, Tennessee, July 18, 1864. Although the Official Roster of Ohio Soldiers shows that he was buried at Knoxville, there is no grave to be found for him at Knoxville National Cemetery. He may be an "Unknown U.S. Soldier" burial there. His name is on the Brighton Twp. tree trunk monument in Brighton Twp. Cemetery at OH Rt. 511 south of OH Rt. 18 with the names of five other 103rd Regiment soldiers.
