Fred Abbott, a resident of this city for more than 50 years, died in Shamrock General Hospital about 5 a.m. Friday, May 24, 1968, following an illness of some four weeks.
Funeral services were conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 25, in the First Methodist Church with the Rev. Lyman Paul Wood, pastor, officiating.
Serving as pallbearers were: Royce Lewis, Rufus Dodgen, Lyman Benson, Ernest Henderson, Jack Roach and Howard Weatherby.Richerson Funeral Home was in charge of interment in Shamrock Cemetery.
Mr. Abbott was a native Texan, born at Bardwell in Ellis County. For the past several years, he represented Utah Tailoring Mills of Ogden, Utah, as a salesman. He was a member of the First Methodist Church and was serving on the board of stewards at the time of his death. He was a member of the Men's Bible Class of that church.He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 929 of Shamrock, the Scottish Rite of Dallas, and Shrine, Khiva Temple of Amarillo.
Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Vera K. Abbott of the home, 820 South Madden Street; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Adams, and two granddaughters, Rene and Judith Adams, all of Shamrock; a sister, Mrs. Jim Hodge of Amarillo, and a brother, Hubert Abbott of Oklahoma City, Okla.
