Enlisted in the 20th Massachusetts Volunteer Regiment on He enlisted August 8, 1861 and re-enlisted on March 19, 1864. Wounded by a shell while on picket duty on the Jerusalem Plank Road at Petersburg on June 24, 1864. Died at Slough Hospital, Washington D.C., on August 19, 1864.
