Death of A. J. Bock After a Long Illness
Grand Island lost another longtime resident in the death of Alvinus J. Bock, which occurred at his home, 115 South Locust street Saturday evening following an extended illness.
Mr. Bock was born in Havekost, Schleswig-Holstein, Germay on November 23, 1867, being aged 57 years. At the age of 13 years he came to America with his parents who located in Grand Island shortly thereafter. Here he attended the public schools and later was employed as a clerk by on of the leading retail grocery firms of the city. In later years, and until his last illness, he was engaged in the grocery business himself at 215 East 4th street. While still a young man, Mr. Bock united with the Congregational church. He was of a most kindly and genial disposition, making friends of all with whom he came in contact. He was a member of the Herman Soehne and of the Plattdeutsche Verein.
Surviving hm are his devoted wife, Carrie E. Bock, one son, Rudolph W. Bock, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, a granddaughter and one brother, Rudolph W. Bock of this city. Funeral services will be held from the home at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rev. F. G. Haughey, of the Seventh Day Adventist church, officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island cemetery.
