Eagle River resident Walter E. Scott Sr., 82, died of a stroke Nov. 2, 2004, at Providence Extended Care Center.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 27 at Community Covenant Church of Eagle River with the Revs. Mark Meredith and Keith Bergstrom officiating. Burial of his cremated remains will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett, Mass.

Mr. Scott was born March 30, 1922, in New Bedford, Mass., to Marie and Anthony Scott. He graduated from East Boston High School.

Mr. Scott served in the U.S. Marines as a buck sergeant during World War II in the Solomon Islands, Guadalcanal and the South Pacific theater.

While living in Boston, he worked for the National Park Service on the USS Constitution and for the U.S. Postal Service.

Mr. Scott had lived in Alaska since 1996.

He enjoyed camping, traveling, Cub Scouting and sports; he was a Red Sox baseball fan.

Mr. Scott was a member of the Community Covenant Church of Eagle River.

His family wrote; "Walter's unbridled enthusiasm, ready smile and broad sense of humor brought joy to all those who knew him."

Survivors include his wife, Dolores Scott of Eagle River; son, Glenn Scott of Eagle River; son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Tracy Scott of Soldotna; grandsons, Nate McCormick, Nicholas McCormick and Noah McCormick of Soldotna; granddaughter, Angelina Scott of Anchorage; son, Walter Scott Jr. of Upland, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Laurel and Tim Smith of Milford, N.H.; grandsons, Jeremie Smith, Michael Smith, Christopher Smith of Milford and Stephen Scott of Raymond, N.H.; sisters, Doris Scott and Anna Corbett of E. Boston; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dolores and Tony DeLuca and Theresa and Paul McGuire Sr. of Melrose, Mass.; brother, Raymond Scott of Revere, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Eugene Scott and Anthony Scott Jr., and nephew, Edward and Eugene Corbett.

Arrangements were with Evergreen's Eagle River Funeral Home, 11046 Chugiak Drive.
