Victor Backus McClelland

Victor was born in Montrose, Calif., and passed away in Reno, Nevada. He is survived by four children: Jean Dorris, Johnnie Urban, Victoria Meyer and Bradley McClelland; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Johnson: and brother, John McClelland.
Victor did two tours in the Navy. The first tour was aboard the USS Anderson-a troop ship. He was called back when the Korean War started. He was stationed aboard the USS Rendova-an aircraft carrier. After the war his ship was sent to Enewetak Atoll in the Pacific Ocean for the Hydrogen Bomb test. He was honorably discharged at the end of 1951.
Victor started working for the CDF (Cal Fire) in the summer of 1957 as a firefighter. He then went on full time as a heavy equipment operator in Dobbins. In 1963 he was sent to Blyth as Ranger 1. He then went to Riverside to the CDF dispatch center. He later came back to Northern California to work as Ranger 1 at the Colfax Station and finished his CDF years flying as spotter in the air attack plane.
A funeral service is to be held Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Chapel of the Hills, 1331 Lincoln Way, Auburn, CA. A graveside service will follow at the Pilot Hill Cemetery.
