Kenneth "Mel" Broeker, 45, of Mount Pleasant, died about 12 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 1990, at University Hospitals, Iowa City.
Born March 2, 1945, in Burlington, he was the son of Orville and Grace Baker Broeker. He married Paula Parsons June 28, 1969, in Danville.
He was a 1964 graduate of New London High School and attended Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a postal clerk in Mount Pleasant for the past 12 years. He was an active member in the Mount Pleasant Boosters Club and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Brent and Todd, both of Mount Pleasant; his parents, Morning Sun; his grandmother, Viola Baker, New London; one brother, William Broeker, Leavenworth, Kansas; and one sister, Sharlene Broeker, Overland Park, Kansas.
Friends may call Saturday afternoon and evening at Elliott Chapel, New London, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
The service for Mr. Broeker will be 2 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, Mount Pleasant, with the Reverend Larry Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery, Mount Pleasant.
A memorial has been established for the Mount Pleasant Boosters Club.
