Violet M. Smith, 97, a resident at Valley View Home, formerly of Elyria, Ohio, died Tuesday evening at the home.
She was born in East Freedom, daughter of the late Charles A. Sr. and Clara (Miller) Smith. She was twice married, first to Marvin C. McGee, then to Frank Smith, both of whom preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sisters: Virginia Tate and Lenore "Mickey" Stone, both of Martinsburg; two brothers: Charles A. Smith Jr. and wife, Shirley, and Paul A. Smith and wife, Shirley, all of Roaring Spring; a sister-in-law, Donna Smith of Martinsburg; and special friends who were raised in Violet's home: Carl Martin and Carolyn (Martin) Marshall, both in Florida.
She was preceded in death by seven siblings: Nell Marie Rickard, Mary Grace Burns, Lena Pearl Hainzey Victory, Glenn A. Smith, Dean A. Smith, Betty Lou Rhodes and Harold W. Smith.
Violet was a 1934 graduate of Morrison Cove High School and retired from Tobin Tool and Die Co. in Lorraine, Ohio. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Martinsburg.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring, followed by a funeral service at 5 p.m. by Pastor Steven E. Burns. Interment will be made at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
Contributions in Violet's memory may be given to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Martinsburg.
