Alva Lee "Popeye" Cogburn, 78, Guymon resident for the past 3 years, formerly of Texhoma, died Monday evening, August 15, 1994 at Hi-Plains Baptist Hospital in Amarillo, Texas. He was born in Slapout, Texas, March 6, 1916. A veteran of the Army Air Corp in WWII, he came to the Texhoma area in 1938 from Piot Point, Texas. He married Thelma Lois Palmer in Texhoma on March 1, 1941. He is survived by his wife at home in Guymon; one daughter, Terry Lloyd of Guymon; one son, Henry Lee Cogburn of Hooker, five sisters, Opal Fortenberry, Gainsville, Texas, Pearl Fortenberry, Valley View, Texas, Mary Jo Linker, Jackie Coin, Aubrey, Texas and Beatrice Skinner, Decatur, Texas; one brother, James Ray Cogburn, Whitesboro, Texas; five grandchildren and two great - grandchildren. Funeral Services will be Thursday, August 18, 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Goodwell with the Rev. John Creason, pastor officiating. Interment will be in the Texhoma Cemetery under the direction of Dawson Welch Funeral Home of Texhoma, Oklahoma.
