Marvin L. "Milt" Hiland of Pittsboro died Dec. 7 (2001) at Eagle Valley Meadows in Indianapolis. He was 83. Born Oct. 4, 1918 in Hendricks County, he was a son of the late Frank Hiland and Willa Reed. He married Violet Lucille (Dillon) Hiland on Jan. 20, 1938. She preceded him in death.

Mr. Hiland was a 1936 graduate of Pinnell High School in Boone County. He had worked as a test mechanic for Allison Gas Turbine before retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Pittsboro United Methodist Church and Pittsboro F.&A.M. Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include a son, Mickey W. Hiland of Pittsboro; a daughter, Sandra K. Marsh of Pittsboro; sisters Magdelene Peabody and Marilyn Bailey, both of Lebanon; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were Dec. 11 at the David A. Hall Mortuary in Pittsboro with Ronald Robinson officiating. Interment was at the Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Lizton. Memorials may be made to the Phi Beta Psi sorority in Pittsboro or to the Pittsboro United Methodist Church.
