Leah T. Stephens, grandmother to 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, died Sunday in a local hospital.

She was a housewife and lived at 1408 SE Lambert St. She was 83.

Born on July 9, 1889, in San Diego, Calif., she moved to Douglas County prior to coming to Portland in 1910. She was married in 1910 to Charles I. Stephens, who died in 1950.

Survivors include three daughters, Audrey Hamaker and Dorothy Hull, both of Portland and Irene Kerr of Milwaukie; four sons, Ivan, Charles E. and Ivan, all of Portland, and Marvin M. of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; sisters, Frances Melton and Winoma Bailey; and brothers, Ernest and Eldred Trussell of Roseburg.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Wilhelm Funeral Home, with burial in Riverview Cemetery.
