Found in The State 02 February 1930: Funeral services for Edward P. (it says P. in the obit), 39, who died Friday morning at his late residence 1221 Ashley avenue, will be held from Southside Baptist church at 2 o'clock this afternoon, with the Rev. R. L. Corbett and the Rev. Andrew Hartley in charge. The Junior order will have charge of the services at the grave in Olympia cemetery. Mr. Coward is survived by his widow; two daughters, Mary Lee and Almeta Coward; one son, Roy L. Coward; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Coward of Columbia; four brothers, Carlisle Coward, Clarence Coward, Walter Coward, all of Columbia, and three sisters, Mrs. Mattie Hill, Mrs. Blanche Galligan and Mrs. Jessie Peak. He was a member of the Palmetto Methodist church and of the Junior order of Olympia, council No. 150. Serving as pallbearers will be: A. G. Hixon, Hoyt L. Sanders, J. B. Coker, L. B. Adcock, George S. Embler and F. I. DuBose.

Per his death certificate posted by another contributor at right and can be found on Ancestry.com: he was a son of W. W. Coward and Lanie Gause, both born in Coward, S.C., and the husband of Maggie Browder. He was a spinner in a textile mill. He died of cerebral apoplexy due to arteriosclerosis. The informant was D. W. Coward of Columbia, S.C., R. F. D. #4.
