Charles Rex Burney came into this life on August 13, 1929, and left for his heavenly home on October 27, 2012, surrounded by his family. He was born near Hoffman, Oklahoma to Joseph Lovie Burney and Violet Pearl (Kersey) Burney. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Emily Stump of Tacoma, Washington and Mollie Poynter of Detroit, Michigan, his brother, J.D. Burney of Hoffman, and an infant daughter, Marcia Gaylene Burney. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Ina Ruth, (Sturmon) Burney of the home, his daughter Linda Ruth Elkins and husband Bill of El Reno, his son, Dennis Burney and wife Melodie of Tulsa, and his son Kevin Burney and wife Kay of Louisville, Kentucky. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Shelly Olson and husband Charles, Kari Bailey and husband Brett, Jaime McGee and husband Mickey, Cory Brandley and wife Krista, Billy Elkins and wife Leslie, Emerson Burney, Keegan Burney, Ellarie Burney, and Kyle Burney, his fourteen great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and his three beloved sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Rex and Ina have made El Reno their home for fifty-three years, where Rex worked as a fireman and a brakeman for the Rock Island Railroad and Ina taught elementary and junior high school. Rex enjoyed working with his strong hands, he loved to garden, he loved to joke and tell stories, and he loved to pour attention and affection on his family--especially Ina. Rex was a man who truly never met a stranger. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends, but his life will continue to be an example to those who knew him. His life began in hardship, but his big heart made the world around him very, very rich. It's not surprising that his big heart finally gave out. He used it often and he used it well. Services are 10:30am Thursday, November 1, 2012 at First Baptist Church of El Reno in care of Wilson Funeral Home. Interment will be at 3:00pm at Prague Cemetery.
