Carlysle Arkels
LEONORE - Carlysle J. "Fuzzy" Arkels, 76, of 205 Market St., Leonore died at 7:32 a.m. March 17 in Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru where he had been a patient for one week.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Peter and Paul Church, Leonore, with the Rev. Charles McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by the Lostant American Legion.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday with a rosary at 7 p.m. in the Mueller Funeral Home, Lostant.

He was born March 23, 1918, in rural Tonica to John and Helen (Schorn) Arkels. He married Irene Black on July 18,1942, in St. Peter and Paul Church.

He worked for 29 years in the maintenance department at Amoco. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the north African and European theaters of operations.

He was a member of St. Peter and Paul Church, the Holy Name Society and Lostant American Legion Post 173. He was a past member of the Leonore town
board and was one of the organizers and a lifetime member of the Leonore Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors are his wife; three sons, D. Joseph Arkels of rural Peru, James Arkels of La Salle and Thomas Arkels of Peru; two daughters, Patricia Johnson of Chillicothe and Mrs. Larry (Barbara) Grubar of Oglesby; 13 grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; and one brother, Rodney Arkels of Streator.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.

Memorials 'may be directed to the Tonica Ambulance Service, Leonore Volunteer Fire Department or St. Peter and Paul Church.
