Widely Known Canton Man
Stricken Following
Lengthy Illness

Sheldon W. Armstrong, 66, a life-long resident of Canton and the oldest living member of what is now the P&O band, died at 12:15 o’clock this morning at the Spencer sanatorium, following an illness whose inception date with his retirement from business ten years ago.

Mr. Armstrong was in the cigar manufacturing business until 1912, when he became a grocer, retiring in 1925 although he maintained his interest in his neighborhood store until 1933. At one time he was a director of the Canton National bank.

Mr. Armstrong was solo alto player with the band, although he had not played with the organization for many years.

Canton Native

Born Jan. *, 1869, in Canton, a son of Calvin S. and Sarah F. (Weed) Armstrong, he was married March 5, 1892, in Canton, to Minnie Barron, who died in 1931. Children living are Russell C. and Carroll B. Armstrong, both of Canton.

Brothers and sisters surviving are Fred and Roy Armstrong, Mrs. Nellie V. Sargent and Mrs. Carrie Leaman, all of Canton.

Mr. Armstrong was a member of the Knights of Pythias.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the Gerard Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Minor Goodsell officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
