TUSCALOOSA Franklin Delano "Frank" Swanger, age 69, of Tuscaloosa, died Thursday night, Dec. 6, 2012, after a hard battle with brain cancer. Frank also suffered from diabetes and a severe heart condition; he was ready to shed this mortal shell.
Frank was a 1962 graduate of Holt High School and studied at Georgia Tech and the University of Oklahoma. Frank was definitely a servant of his community. He served in every possible capacity, including past President of the Jaycees, a civic organization that is active all over the United States and known for their service to others. Frank was also the West Alabama Fair Manager, and he loved it and worked with and gave his whole heart and life to it. This fair held a lot of memories for lots of people all over West Alabama.
While Frank was a long time member of Holt Methodist Church growing up, he was currently a member of Taylorville United Methodist Church. Frank's day-to-day service was in the community to his neighbors and friends. That is what he will be best remembered by – his love and care for his friends and family! Friend and "Pa Pa" were his favorite names he liked to be called. Frank and Linda Swanger were married 47 years and finally they both retired, but Frank has now moved on to a sweeter place. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him!
Frank was preceded in death by his son, Steven F. Swanger; two brothers, Jessie and John Swanger; and his parents, Clebert and Minnie Swanger.
Local survivors include his wife, Linda Warren Swanger; his son, Michael W. Swanger (Annette); two grandsons, Ryan Franklin Swanger and Benjamin Steven Swanger; two brothers, Gordon Swanger (Barbara Ann) and Phillip Swanger; his nephew, Bryan Swanger; his mother-in-law, Claire Warren; his sister-in-law, Kathy M. Warren; and numerous other family members who live in other cities and out of state.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Jim Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Swanger, Bryan Swanger, Ben Swanger, Randy Phillips, Chris Goad, Jesse Beavers, and Paul Ryan.
Honorary pallbearers are Holt High School Class of 1962, the Jaycees, Dr. Ross Vaughn, and friends and neighbors of James Drive.
