Mary is descended from prominent Pitt County families, being the paternal grandchild of John King Sr. ((1797-1845) and Allie May Vines (1803-1883); and maternal grandchild of Allen Bynum (1809-1872) and Mariah T. May (ca. 1814-1893).
Mary married Jefferson Loderick Fountain (about 1891) a local merchant, and they raised a family of 8 known children in Falkland:
* Mary Lillian Fountain (1892-1984)
* Judge Jefferson L. Fountain, Jr. (1894-1973).
* Elizabeth Cobb Fountain Barrow (1895-1984).
* Pearl Fountain Mallette (1897-1992).
* Theodore King Fountain (1899-1958)
* Selma Fountain Cosgrove (1901-1960)
* Ruth Fountain (ca. 1905)
* Olive Fountain (1908-1934)
Sometime after 1900, the family removed to Raleigh, where Jefferson continued in the mercantile business. Mary was widowed in 1927 when her husband died at age 66. She survived him 9 years, passing in 1936 at age 68.
