Martin was shell shocked during WWI, multiple surgeries at Livermore Naval Hospital to take out bone fragments from that injury. He developed diabetes. He died at Livermore Naval Hospital and Emma Belle Brush Williams Edwards paid for her fathers burial at Russian River Cemetery and she had three plots there in which Richard Douglas Brush, her father Martin Allen Brush and later her Mother was to be buried. There was change of owners for the cemetery so that when the family sought to bury mother; Edith Lillian Evans Brush Loveall, they could not because a poor person had been buried in the third site. Edith is buried in another location in the same Cemetery but not where she should have been placed. Emma had the documentation that proved she bought three burial places adjacent to each other. Martin and Edith Lillian Evans Brush's 13 children are Faye Edna (1920-1986), Robert Allen (1922-1922), Edith Lillian (1924-1994), Emma Belle (1925-2013), Edward (1926-1926), Marjorie Naidine (1928-1928), Martin Arnold (1929-1965), Seymour Ivean (1932-2002), Estella Ann (1933-2015), {{Living Daughter in 2016}}, Donald Anthony (1936-2008), Forest Charles (1938-2009), and Richard Douglas (1943-1947). Edith Lillian Evans Brush married a Loveall after Martin died and that daughter is still living in 2016 which was her final and fourteenth child.
