Found in The State 02 December 1979: J. D. Chappell, 36, of Pageland, died Friday at a Columbia hospital after a long illness. Born in Chesterfield County, he was a son of Mrs. Mary Lee Leona Collins Chappell and the late John Henry Chappell. Surviving are his mother of Traveler's Rest; six brothers, John and Fred Chappell of Pageland, Buddy Chappell of Darlington, Willie Chappell of Cheraw, Billy Chappell of Gastonia, N. C. and James Haney of Charlotte, N. C.; and three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Stevens of Lancaster, Mrs. Mamie Ruse of Orlando, Fla., and Mrs. Sadie Stamey of Traveler's Rest. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Olympia Cemetery. Thompson Funeral Home is in charge.
