Woman Takes Poison, Dies
Ill Health Thought Cause of Mrs. Evelyn Ham's Act
Swallowing a fatal dose of poison at 3 a.m. Thursday, Mrs. Evelyn W. Ham stumbled to her apartment phone and summoned relatives. The empty vial of poison was found by police near the phone.
"Come at once" was her brief message. She died two hours later at Baptist Hospital. Efforts to counteract the poison's effects were futile.
Mrs. Ham was 31. She lived at 1793 Madison. Ill health was given as the cause of the tragedy by her sister's husband, Aubrey B. Clapp, who answered her call with his wife.
Mrs. Ham's 10 year old son, George, was with his father, Joseph A. Ham, at the Catholic Club at the time. The couple are divorced.
Funeral services were to be at the Clapp home, 297 Avalon, at 2:30 p.m Thursday. Dean Israel H. Noe was to officiate.
Surviving Mrs Ham are three sisters, Mrs. W.B. Magee, Mrs. Maury Ellett and Mrs. Clapp, and two brothers, Jesse A. Forrest of Chicago and Leon Forrest of Memphis.
