Melvin was born on September 30, 1939, in Ft. Scott, KS the son of Chester M. and Myrtle (Evans) Beerbower.
He moved to Lawrence as a child.
He was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Lawrence.
He was a truck driver from the age of 18 for Ryder Logistics for many years. For the last eight years he drove the First Student school bus in Lawrence.
He married Janice Kay Killinger on June 7, 1974 in Lawrence. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, Michael Beerbower, Duane Beerbower, both of CA, Kevin Carlyle, Eudora; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and two half brothers, John Dickerman, Lawrence, and David Dickerman, OK.
