Mahala married Charles Fleming on 1 Jan 1856 in Hardin, Iowa. They were the parents of Sarah, Martha, William, Rose, John, Elizabeth, Mary Cora, Fred, and Joseph.


March 10, 1904 - Humboldt county Independent - Mahala Jane Stout was born in Fountain County, Ind., in 1837 and came to Hardin County with her parents in 1852 and was married to Charles Fleming in 1856 on New Years day. They moved to Humboldt county in 1859 where they have since made their home. She was the mother of ten children, one dying in infancy and one only five years ago.

They were all present at the bedside but two who live in Oregon. She was shut off from the world for many years by a great affliction, deafness, and her one great comfort was her home and children. She died at the family home in Humboldt, March 2, 1904.
