Jim attended Yountville Grammar School, graduated from Napa Senior High School in California and served in the United States Army. Jim moved to Alaska in 1971. He worked on an oil rig in Cook Inlet for a short time, Enstar Natural Gas for eighteen years and then went to work for ASRC on the North Slope as an operator of heavy equipment where he retired in 2002.
Jim was known by his Alaska extended family and friends as "KULIE". He loved Alaska and enjoyed four wheeling, snow machine trail riding, 4 p.m. safety meetings with the Guys, motor home camping with his friends and NASCAR. After he retired he spent the winters in Pahrump, Nevada where he continued motor home camping in the sun.
Jim is survived by the love of his life Shirley Littleton; his brother Gene Kulievan and wife Barbara Kulievan of Tunas, Missouri; his sister Clarisse Kulievan Evans, her husband Tim Evans and their two sons Ross and Peter Evans all of Brea, California. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Peter Charles Kulievan and Janet Gillies Kulievan of Napa, California and paternal grandparents Christopher Kulievan and Pauline Bini Kulievan of San Francisco, California and Napa California and maternal grandparents James Gillies and Louise Elasser Gillies of Napa, California.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Eagle River Elks Lodge #2682 on August 26th at 4 p.m. His ashes will be sprinkled on September 8 at 4 p.m. in Lake Louise, Alaska followed by a Celebration of life at Lake Louise Lodge.
Jim's wishes were in lieu of flowers please make donations to a memorial fund for Eagle River Lions Park. The fund has been set up with the Eagle River Lions Club and may be sent to them at P.O. Box 1046, Eagle River, AK 99577.
