 The Four Adkins Brothers(John, William, Harry Roland and Joseph) were born in VA.,  John was born 1775, William in 1777 (Surry Co, VA), Harry Roland in 1784 and Joseph 1788.
The Adkins family moved westward toward Kentucky after the Revolutionary War, about 1790.  They moved through Botetourt County, VA where William married Mary Hartman 30 Jul 1800  and John married Mary Brunnamer 30Jan 1804 before settling in Kentucky.   The brothers settled in Lincoln County, KY first and by 1804 were in Adair County, KY, as John's first child was born there.  John died in Adair, KY about 1822. The remaining three brothers moved to Carroll Co. MO. by 1828.
William's wife , Mary died in 1839 and is buried in the Adkins Cemetery.   She & William had six children:  John, George, Margaret, Frank, James, and Mary .  William married  Elizabeth W Hardwick Bickens in 1840.  She died in 1851.  At the age of 81, William married a third time , in June 1858 to  36-year-old Sarah Hill.  Alas, it did not last, and he sued for and was granted a divorce in 1859 because she would not perform her wifely duties.
        William died about 1870, and is buried in Adkins Cemetery, Eugene Township, Carroll, MO.
