Mary's Poem for her Uncle.

~~ Thousands of Acres. ~~

We stood gazing at rolling hills of green

Walked down the draws where grass grew waist high.

Watched as hundreds of Herefords grazed the range land.

Admired where thousands of aces met the azure sky.

His bright eyes were squinted from looking afar,

At this land that was his pride and joy.

Thousands of acres were his piece of the earth,

He had strived for since he was a boy.

Tilling the fields and sowing the grains.

Knowing when to combine or bale the hay.

Working many long hours to build his dream

And getting the thousands of acres along the way.

It wasn't for fame nor fortune he craved.

Just the peace and comfort of prairie life.

A family and friends to enjoy close by.

And thousands of acres to share with his wife

This earth lost a Great Keeper

When the maker call him home.

He left thousands of acres

For someone else to roam.

~~In remembrance of Uncle Lawrence Woodward

by his Niece, Mary Ellen (Albers) Fluharty, 1997.
