Elizabeth Ann Countryman, widow of the late Rev. Abram F. Countryman, was born in Westford, N.Y., on May 6, 1838, and died at Scottsburg, N.Y., Oct. 22, 1921, being 83 years, 5 months and 16 days of age. She was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church early in life and was always a faithful, earnest and consistent christian. She married to Rev. A.F. Countryman at South Cameron, N.Y., July 26, 1860. Mrs. Countryman was especially interested in missionary work in China, and she and her husband had educated three native preachers in that country and two persons in India. A girl in India whom she educated was given the name of her mother, Hannah Bateman. Since her husband's death Mrs. Countryman has continued the support of a day school in China. She was of a retiring disposition, avoiding all publicity, "never letting her right hand know what her left hand did." She leaves one brother, C.A. Bateman of Scottsburg, at whose home she died. Funeral services were held in Scottsburg Methodist Episcopal church on Monday afternoon, Oct. 24the, being in charge of the pastor, Rev. C.R. Morrow, who preached from 2 Cor. 5:1. Her body was laid away in the Union cemetery.
