Charles Ostrye
Charles Ostrye born 23 Apr 1847 Sucha, Bydgoszcz, Poland. Came to US with parents in August 1852. Settled in Dunkirk and then family moved to French Creek in 1864. Charles served with the 15th New York Engineers group from Chautauqua Co. He was discharged in 1865 at end of war and returned to French Creek where he farmed until his death . He is buried in St. Matthias Cemetery, French Creek, Chautauqua , NY along with his wife Mary Sullivan.

NY Adelbert (Charles) was baptized on 27 April 1847 in the Catholic church in Byslaw, Bydgoszcs He came to America with his family on the ship "Universe" and landed in New York City on in August 1852 He moved with his parents to Dunkirk, NY)a large polish settlement) and lived there until 1864, when the family bought property in French Creek, N.Y. The family story is that on his way home from the Civil War , Charles stopped at the farm of the Sullivan family, down the hill from his own home and asked to get a dipper of water from the well before proceeding up the hill to home and he met Mary Sullivan at this time and she later married hiim.
