Fred August Bullert was born 9 Nov 1895 to Wilhelmine "Minnie" Augusta Mathilde Kohls Bullert (1867-1953) and Carl "Charles" Bullert (1860-1920) in Penn Township, McLeod County, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton, MN. He died on 6 Apr 1979 at the Hutchinson Community Hospital. He is buried in the Immanual Lutheran Cemetery in Brownton, MN.

He sustained injuries from honorable service in World War I. He was a member of the American Legion (Edward Ewald Post 143) at Brownton, MN, and World War I veterans at Hutchinson, MN. He was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Fred married Martha C. Weerts (18 Jul 1903-15 Jan 1990) on 12 Jun 1934 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton with her father Reverend Henry Weerts officiating. He and Martha farmed south of Brownton until 1942 when they moved to Hutchinson. In 1974 they moved to the Park Towers. 9. Willard A. Bullert (3 Mar 1909-23 Aug 1991) (Mildred Pauline Donicht), Brownton, MN.

At the time of his death, he was survived by thirteen grandchildren, his sister Irene Bullert of Hutchinson, MN; and brothers Richard Herman Bullert of Alexandria and Willard A. Bullert of Brownton, MN.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one son Waldemar in 1936, three sisters Martha Bullert Spiering, Elsie Pauline Bullert, and Emma Bullert Klitzke and four brothers Gustav Bullert, George Bullert, Otto Daniel Bullert, and Walter Bullert, who died in infancy.

Pallbearers were David Charles Bullert, Ronald Bullert, Milton Hanson, Wendell Klitzke, John Lietz, and Harold Meier.

Fred August Bullert's grandparents David Wilhelm Erdmann Bullert (31 Jan 1820-25 Feb 1887) and Rose Seehaver Bullert (14 Sep 1824-22 Apr 1903) were original settlers in the area along with Gottfried Bullert. As early settlers, Gottfried Bullert (16 May 1808–27 Oct 1885) and David W. Erdmann Bullert (31 Jan 1820–25 Feb 1887) bought land near each other in Sibley County as follows:

Information on David W. Erdmann's father Erdmann Buller [sic] can be found in a German collection of births in Zempelburg and Vandsburg, 1750-1812, by Gunter Bleck.

Some confusion exists because two persons named Erdmann Buller are mentioned:
Erdmann Wilhelm Buller (b. 30 Sep 1802), son of Christian Buller, and
Erdmann Buller (b. 25 Nov 1770), son of Daniel Buller.

David W. Erdmann Bullert's father Erdmann Buller [sic] (born 25 Dec 1770) married Charlotte Hoge (1773-1807) on 10 Jul 1807 (first wife).

Children:
1. Maria (7 Sep 1794 – 26 Jan 1803) Zempelburg
2. Anna Elisabeth, born 18 Jul 1799
3. Eva Rosina, b. 12 Mar 1797
4. Johann Daniel, b. 2 Feb 1803
5. Louise, b. 6 Apr 1805

Erdman Buller [sic] (born 25 Dec 1770) married Anna Dorothea Elisabeth Kornig (1784-1849) (second wife).

Children:
1. Charlotte "Lotte" (4 Jun 1808-12 Jun 1808)
2. Gottlieb Emanuel, b. 16 Aug 1809 (married Caroline Ristau 14 Oct 1833). [On 7 Mar 1929 the Arlington Enterprise newspaper article "Bullert Families Numerous in the Arlington Community" revealed that David W. Erdmann Bullert's brother Gottlieb "located near Henderson at about the same time."]
3. Wilhelmine Elizabeth married Christoph Bork 15 Feb 1836
4. Florentine "Flora" (4 May 1813) married Gottfried Kriese 27 Dec 1836
5. David Wilhelm Erdmann (31 Jan 1820-25 Feb 1887)

David Wilhelm Erdmann Buller and his uncle Gottfried Buller changed the spelling of their last name to Bullert; that is, their names became David Wilhelm Erdmann Bullert (b. 31 Jan 1820) and Gottfried Bullert (b. 1808). At this time no reason is known for this change. The name Buller meant a writer of documents, and it is interesting that among the descendants of the Buller-Bullert family are teachers, lawyers, doctors, builders, and engineers.

An article in the Arlington Enterprise dated 7 March 1929 titled "Bullert Families Numerous in the Arlington Community" included the following: "Now, most Enterprise readers probably know several persons whose surname is Bullert. But it is equally probable that they do not know how each is related to each other or which are not related at all. In fact, in conversation with a number of residents in Arlington and the neighboring community, the writer found that most of them were hopelessly confused when it came to straightening out the Bullert relationships."

Fortunately, information on the Buller/Bullert family can be found in a German collection of births in Zempelburg and Vandsburg, 1750-1812, by Gunter Bleck. Gunter Bleck's book indicates that David W. Erdmann Bullert descended from Daniel Buller [sic] (b. 30 Aug 1761) and that Gottfried Bullert descended from Christian Buller [sic] (1773-1846).

Daniel Buller married 11/19/1752 Marianne Muller on 19 Nov 1752 and had three children: Daniel (30 Aug 1761-Apr 1767); Eva Rosina (b. 20 Jan 1765), and Erdmann (b. 25 Nov 1770).

Two of Erdmann Buller's children settled in Sibley County: Gottlieb Emanuel Bullert (b. 16 Aug 1809) and his brother David Wilhelm Erdmann Bullert (b. 31 Jan 1820).

Gunter Bleck's book indicates that Gottfried Bullert descended from Christian Buller [sic] (1773-1846) and that David W. Erdmann Bullert descended from Daniel Buller [sic] (b. 30 Aug 1761).

A copy of Gunter Bleck's book Die deutsche Bevölkerung in den Herrschaften Zempelburg und Vandsburg 1750-1812 is on Family History Library film # 1183661.
