William G. Barrows, Dorset Innkeeper
DORSET - William G. Barrows, 76, prominent resident of Dorset, who owned and operated the Barrows House here until his retirement in 1961, died Wednesday at Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington after a long illness. He had been a lifetime resident here.
Mr. Barrows, an alumnus of the University of Vermont, was born in Dorset March 6, 1886, son of Experience and Teresa (Sexton) Barrows.
His civic and community activity memberships and officerships included the Dorset Field Club, Dorset Players, Maple Hill Cemetery Association, Dorset Fish and Game Club. He was a member of the Dorset Congregation Church where he had often acted as supply minister.
During World War I he served as a first lieutenant Troop D Cavalry, New York National Guard, Syracuse.
Survivors are his wife, the former Harriet Hubbard; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph Whitehead of Ridgewood, N.J.; a son, William G. Barrows Jr.; a sister, Helen Jane Barrows, all of Dorset; five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Dorset Congregational Church at 2 pm Saturday with the pastor, the Rev. Robert Dana, officiating. In the spring, burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery here.
