Raymond C. Schehl, age 81, of Salem, Ohio, died Sunday morning, December 2, 2012 at his home. He was born December 28, 1930 in Butler, Pennsylvania, the son of the late, John Jr. and Rose (Beers) Schehl.

Ray retired from Carriage Hill in 1990 and had previously worked at Hunt Valve for 4 years and Sterling of Salem for 17 years. He was a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church and had been choir director at the church, St. Patrick Catholic Parish in Leetonia and at St. Mary and St. Frances Cabrini Parish in Conneaut, Ohio.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #1818, Father Kermet Assembly (4th Degree Honor Guard), Auxiliary Police for 17 years & chief for 5 years, member of the Salem Order of Eagles Lodge #316, Salem Saxon Lodge – Branch #18, U.C.T. and life member of Dad's of Foreign Service Veterans.

His wife of 62 years, Mary Lou (Courson) Schehl, whom he married October 21, 1950, survives him along with nine children, Vicki (Bob) Zines of East Palestine, Sue (Jon) Vollmar of Salem, Vince (Geri) Schehl of Boyne City, MI, Phyllis (Bob) Powell of Salem, Kay (Kevin) Filer of Volant, PA, Rick (John Damron) Schehl of Salem, Pam (Doug) Yeager of Salem, Jim (Barb) Schehl of Stafford, VA and Mary Schehl of Salem; three sisters, Ethel Hinton, Clara Marie Bartberger and Diana Sybert; 16 grandchildren, Angie (Lawrence) Daoang, Theresa (Steve) Franklin, John (Karen) Lehman, Jen Pitts, Michael Schehl, Missy (John Ruth) McElfresh, Bill (Erin) Powell, Rob (Ashton) Powell, Frances (Ben) Wamer, Jake Filer, Jason (Ashley) Yeager, Amanda Yeager, Courtney Schehl, Corey Schehl, Kaitlyn McKibben and Zac McKibben; 10 great-grandchildren, Nathan Lehman, Kyle Lehman, Lucas Lehman, Cody McElfresh, Alivia Ruth, Cory Thurston, Mackenzie Powell, Teagan Powell, Holden Warner and Arianna Yeager.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Herbert and George Schehl; and two sisters, Sister Mary Vincent and Joan Hertz.
Burial will be at Hope Cemetery.
