William F. Fields joined the C. S. A., on Mar. 1st, 1862, at camp Defiance, which is believed to be New Madrid, Missouri. Company B, McDonalds Light Artillery, Missouri Volunteers, two weeks later a William F. Fields enlisted into the infantry then went AWOL, with no further record. Believe this to be the same individual.

Per the "Stoddard County Democrat," newspaper, date Thursday, 9 November 1899, page 1: Wm. Fields and wife came down from Bloomfield this morning and went out west of town to their farm to look after gathering the corn crop. Mr. Fields is now running the Bloomfield Lumber Yard and doing a good business.

Per the "Bloomfield Vindicator," June 18, 1975, page 11, article: Footnotes To History-Stoddard County, David and William F. Fields are listed as members of Company H, Stoddard County Infantry Regiment (Second Infantry), First Division, Missouri State Guard.

Found David listed as a Private in Phelans Regiment, captured Jan 27, 1863, received at Alton, Illinois, 25 Feb., 1863, was captured in Stoddard Co., Mo. and exchanged on April 1, 1863. This information is the same for W. F. Fields, found on card #'s 45032850 & 51.
From "Highland in the Swamps," page 200, by Robert H. Forister: June 18th, 1909; The William Fields home burned Wednesday about 2:30. Pearl Whitehead, a hired girl, poured kerosene on hot coals and it exploded. She was horribly burned from head to foot and her clothing nearly burned off her before neighbors smothered the flames with blankets. After the explosion she had run through the house a living torch. Mrs. Fields barely got out with the children.

There are two court records in Stoddard County that needs to be researched, they are: book N, page 324, book R page 596.

Jessie C. and Margaret Riddle sold to William Fields of Green County, Arkansas, 40 acres of land for the sum of $300.00, on 27 December 1871, book 1, page 352, Stoddard County, Missouri.
Charles Chouteau sold to William Fields 40 acres of land for the sum of $160.00, on 27 December 1883, book 6, page 73, Stoddard County, Missouri.
William sold to Charles Chouteau on 27 December 1883, 40 acres for the sum of $120.00, book 4, (Deed of Trust), page 430, Stoddard County, Missouri.
