Ruth McGaughey, 96, a lifelong resident of West Columbia went to be with her Lord on Nov. 30, 2012. She was born October 31, 1916 in East Columbia to Albert Ransom & Ruth Hagemeier Beal. She was a lifetime member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, charter member of the West Columbia Garden Club, member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 503, a school volunteer and a member of AARP. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Edgar H. McGaughey III & wife, Suzanne of Richmond, Marjorie R. Bertrand & husband, Dean of Santa Fe, Tommy B. McGaughey & wife, Neva of West Columbia & Cleveland McGaughey of West Columbia; sister, Kittie Stanger & husband, Russell of Brazoria; sister in law, Lillian M. Beal of West Columbia; grandchildren, Patrick McGaughey &wife, Stephanie, Tiffany Couser, Michael Couser & wife, Karen, Melanie & Jennifer McGaughey, Dixie McGaughey & wife, Cristy, Cyndi Barnett & husband, Andy, & Mack McGaughey; 8 great grandchildren & numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Edgar H. McGaughey Jr., brothers, Henry, Chauncey, Harold, Owen & Dixie Beal, sisters, Ethel Pierce and Mary Louise Hellums. Funeral services will be held on Tues. Dec. 4, 2012 at 11:00 am at Baker Funeral Home Chapel in West Columbia with Bruce & Tracy Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Columbia Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Bethel Presbyerian Church in East Columbia. Serving as pallbearers will be Patrick McGaughey, Dixie McGaughey, Andy Barnett, Michael Couser, Scott Booth, Allen Netzel, Gary Maus & Alan Roe. Honorary pallbearer will be Mack McGaughey. The family requests that donations be made to CEMS 400 N 13th St West Columbia,Texas 77486 or the scholarship fund at Bethel Presbyterian Church PO Box 817 West Columbia, Texas 77486 in Ruthie's name. They also want to give special thanks to Dr. Amin, Dr. Baradhi, Donna Wheeler, Tina Baxter, The Wound Center Staff, Staff at Country Village, & Amed Hospice.
