Albert M. "Al" Fickling, II, age 60 of 297 Blackberry Road in Boone died Friday, November 30, 2012 at his home with his family at his side.

Al attended Apex High School, Apex, NC and graduated from Admiral Farragut Academy, St. Petersburg, FL in 1971. He was a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill in 1975 with a BS in Geology and was a geologist and geophysisist in uranium exploration. He attended UAB Birmingham. He became a Certified Public Accountant in 1986, and has been practicing in North Carolina for more than two decades.

He was an Eagle Scout, ordained deacon of the Baptist Church and adult Sunday School Teacher. He loved the Lord and wanted others to know Jesus Christ as their Savior. His granddaughter calls him "De-Da the Magnificent".

Survivors include his wife Camelia Hart Fickling of the home, a son James M. Fickling and wife Kristina of Boone, a daughter Tara Kristen Fickling, of Boone and her boy friend Mike Best of Morrisville, NC, a granddaughter Skylynn Fickling of Boone, father & mother-in-law D. J. and Betty Hart of West Jefferson. Survivors also include a brother & sister-in-law Myron Hart and wife Lindy of West Jefferson, two nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother Albert M. "Buck" Fickling and Louise "Lucy" Fickling.

Funeral Service for Mr. Albert M. "Al" Fickling, II will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, December 3, 2012 at Laurel Fork Baptist Church with Dr. Daniel Featherstone officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Monday. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Blowing Rock.

The family will receive friends at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel Sunday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.
