Josiah/Josias was a wheelwright and settled in Boston where he acquired an estate on the southeasterly corner of what is now (1906) Essex Street and Harrison Ave. After the death of his widow a partition was made of his estate among his surviving children, on 20 Sep 1693. He was one of the founders of the third, or Old South Church.

He married Urania Rainsford on Mar 3,1654/5 at Boston,MA.

Children: Josiah Belcher Jr, John Belcher, John Belcher, Jonathan Belcher, Elizabeth Belcher Paine, Joseph Belcher, Rebecca Belcher Fuller, Edward Belcher, Anna Belcher Johnson, Dorothy Belcher Gross, Abigail Belcher, Nathan Belcher, Ruth Belcher Tolman, and Benjamin Belcher.
