Funeral of Gilbert Montgall
There was a large attendance at the funeral of Gilbert Montgall, which was held yesterday morning from Welden’s undertaking parlors. Major Woodson and Major Minter and many old Confederate comrades were present. Dr. Hill, of the Howard Methodist Episcopal church, pronounced a fitting tribute to the dead soldier.

Gilbert R. Montgall, a Jackson County
Pioneer and War Veteran Dies
Of Heart Trouble
Gilbert R. Montgall, aged 69 years, and
for forty years a resident of Kansas City,
died May 10 at his home, 1219 Charlotte Street,
Of Valvular disease of the heart. He was a
Veteran of the Confederate army and
belonged to the First Kentucky brigade
of infantry, or “Orphans” brigade, as it
was called, which was raised by John C. Breckinridge,
and afterward commanded by General Buckner.
He was born in Shelby County, KY., February 8, 1830. At the
close of the war he emigrated to Missouri and
lived in Jackson County until his death. He was a
member of camp 80, United confederate Veterans, and
Leaves two grown sons and a wife.
Arrangements for the funeral will be made today.
