Ref: (B. G. Allen) -- Norma L. Gilchrist (1876-1952), the youngest child of James and Hannah Gilchrist, was born in Blackhawk Co., IA. She attended the Iowa State Normal School as did her brothers and sisters and also attended Wellesley College and the Michigan Agricultural College, now Michigan State University.

Norma married Benjamin R. Roseboom who was a professor in the Veterinarian Department, Michigan State University. Ben Allen, grandson of Congressman F. C. Gilchrist fondly remembers the one year he spent with them at Michigan State University in 1943. Ben Roseboom was a good golfer and well liked at the University. His wife was engaged in many University activities not the least of which was the dedication of the Maude Gilchrist Dormitory. The couple had no children.

Frye, Archivist, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI - Norma (Gilchrist) Roseboom was hired by Michigan Agricultural College in 1905 and retired in 1938. She held the positions of Instructor in English (1905-1908), Assistant Professor (1908-1930), and Associate Professor (1930-1938). The date of her death was reported to be April 3, 1950.

Monday evening, April 3, 1950 at the Auburn City Hospital, Norma Gilchrist Roseboom, wife of Benjamin B Roseboom of East Lansing, Michigan.
Private services at the convenience of the family on Thursday afternoon, April 6, 1950, at the Lester E Brew Funeral Chapel, 48 South Street, Auburn, NY. Interment in Soule Cemetery.
