Not mentioned in her obituary, but she was also married to John F. Crusha. The child of that marriage was Mary Alice Crusha Gates.

Mary Elizabeth Hicks
Mary Elizabeth Severns was born in Maryetta, Missouri, January 12, 1871 and departed this life February 21, 1926, aged 55 years, 1 month and 7 days. Her childhood and youth were spent with her parents in Missouri and Illinois.

She was united in marriage, January 29, 1893, to Joseph B. Hicks of Logan. To this union were born seven children, five girls and two boys. One son, William Hobart, died September 29, 1910.

Nearly 41 years of her life were spent on the farm and in Logan, Kansas. She was a faithful wife and a dear mother. Besides rearing her own, she mothered two small children by a former marriage of Mr. Hicks.

In December 1924, she was stricken by an incurable disease and was a patient sufferer to the end.

She leaves to mourn her departure; her aged husband, seven daughters and one son: Mrs. Alice Gates, Mrs. Manilla Campbell, Mrs. Lola Harmon, Jessie and Martha and Joseph Richmond of Logan and Mrs. Mollie Boyd, Mrs. Hatasu Oleson of Henry, Idaho, Mrs. Myldred Brown of Beaver City, Nebraska; an aged mother, Mrs. James Marr of Mayfield, Colorado; her father, William F. Severns, died in the soldier's home in Quincy, Illinois, having been a Civil War soldier), two brothers, Will Severns of Humbolt County, California and Harvey Severns of Boulder, Colorado, two sisters, Jessie who is married and lives in Los Angeles, California and Laura, who is married and lives in the state of Washington; sixteen grandchildren, and a host of sorrowing neighbors and friends. All the children were present at the funeral except Mrs. Oleson of Henry, Idaho.

She was a member of the M.E. Church of Logan and during her last illness found much comfort through her faith in her Savior.

Funeral was held Wednesday at the M.E. Church conducted by Rev. F.C. Adams, following which interment was made in the Logan cemetery.

A loving mother who was true and kind has left us. No wife or mother like her we shall find. God called her home. It was his will. But in our home there is a vacant place which can never be filled.
