Christopher Srope served in the New Jersey line and as a teamster, driving supply wagons, during the Revolutionary War, and was later awarded a pension for this service. He apparently began spelling his name Srope because it was so recorded on the records relating to his service.
After the War, Christopher's parents and most of their family removed to Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, but Christopher, along with his older brother Ferdinand, remained in New Jersey, farming land which the family had leased for a period of years. On 24 Apr 1785, Christopher married Thankful Penwell; they had 11 children.
The date of Christopher's death is stated on his headstone as 21 Sep 1848, but New Jersey death records from Hunterdon County state that the date of his death was 16 Oct 1848. (Thanks to Jeannie Nelson, FAG member #48971611, for bringing the New Jersey death record to my attention.)
