Walter Furnald, Life Resident and Active in Community, Dies in Sleep
Special To The Hawk-Eye Gazette.
Gladstone, Ill., July 27.—Walter Furnald, 63, prominent citizen of this community, died early this morning in his sleep of a heart attack. His wife was awakened by his unusual breathing and called a doctor but the victim failed to rally and did not regain consciousness.
He was born in Gladstone township Feb. 9, 1874 and bad been a life resident. For eleven years be had been road commissioner of the township and was active in community affairs. He was a member of the Gladstone M.E. church.
He is survived by his wife, four children; Ferrell Furnald of Caldwell, Idaho, Mrs. Mary Watson, Cedar Rapids. la., Mrs. Cora Thomas of Keokuk, and Mrs. Donzella Morris of Oquawka. Two brothers, George of Gladstone and Forest of Oquawka, and two sisters, Mrs. Ida Milligan, Gulfport and Mrs. Millie Sandy of Gladstone. He also left nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home and Rev. Maurice Ingram of Terre Haute, Ill., and pastor of Gladstone M. E. church will officiate. He will be assisted by Rev. H. E. Whitmyer of the United Presbyterian church of Gladstone. Burial will he at Oquawka and the body is now at the Mudd funeral home in Biggssille.
