Carol Marie Helder was born December 7, 1909 on the family farm near Inwood, IA. She was the youngest of Albert and Eva (Kornder) Helder's nine children. Carol graduated from Inwood High School where she received her teacher training. She had the joy of teaching country school for a year near Inwood. She was married to Clarence Anderson on September 28, 1929 at Belle Fourche, SD. They celebrated 76 years together before his death in 2006.
They farmed near Hayti, SD until 1949 when they moved into Hayti. They owned a feed and seed store and later a Gambles hardware store. They retired in 1969 and moved to Canton, SD in 1998. She enjoyed cooking and loved trying new recipes. She had many creative hobbies through the years, never letting decreasing mobility stop her creativity. Carol always found a new creative outlet when she was no longer able to do an old favorite. She loved to study the Bible and never lost her thirst for more knowledge and understanding. Carol was a member of Canton Lutheran Church and former member of Hayti Lutheran. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, as well as a woman of incredible kindness and grace.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, eight siblings, and an infant granddaughter.
Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis (Glenn) Jorgenson of Sioux Falls; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Tom) Burns of Martell, NE and Julieanne (Mark) Rilling of Pierre; three great grandchildren Elizabeth (Leif) Milliken of Lincoln, NE, Kody Rilling and Selah Rilling; and two great great grandchildren, Laurelin Carol Faith Milliken and Thomas Milliken
