She was first married to James Calvin Stamps. To this union were born three children:

During the Civil War, James C. Stamps enlisted with the CSA. For some unknown reason, he did not return home right away after the war was over. Maria, thinking that he was dead, married Christopher C. Amick 1864 and had children. Then when James finally returned home, Maria divorced Mr. Amick and remarried James. But oddly Maria is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery near Mr. Amick and under the Amick name ??!!!.
when she was still married to James! and not married to Chris.
