John Washington Garn's obituary reports that he was buried in the Burr Oak Township Cemetery in Burr Oak, St. Joseph County, Michigan. And Grave Memorial# 93987755 was added for him in that cemetery. However, he was exhumed and reburied in Oak Lawn Cemetery. A descendant visiting that cemetery was unable to locate his grave. Fortunately someone was working in the cemetery who reported that John's body had been exhumed a number of years before and moved to Oak Lawn Cemetery, where there is a large monument for him and his wife.

Although his obituary reports that he was born in 1835, it gives an age-at-death that places his birth a year earlier. His death record also reports that he was born in 1834. However, the birth of a brother, Josiah, in 1834 precludes placing the birth of John W. Garn in 1834. He had to have been born in 1835 as indicated on his grave marker.
