Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for Tom Brown who played a major part in the history of Logan's business district and the development of this community, having operated a drug store in Logan for 57 years prior to his retirement a few years back.

Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Church by the Logan Masonic Lodge, assisted by Rev. Ives of the Christian Church. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery and graveside services were also performed by the lodge.

Casket bearers, members of the lodge, were Leo Elliot, E.H. Berry, Lloyd Reese, Henry Clark, Jim West and James Baird. Music was supplied by Mrs. Jules Lappin and Walter Lappin with Mrs. D.G. Bales at the organ.

Eckhart Funeral Directors were in charge of the arrangements.

Thomas Coleman Brown, son of John M. and Mary Elizabeth Brown was born October 7, 1965 in McDonough County, Illinois and died October 3, 1956 at a hospital in Kansas City, MO. He came to Logan with his parents in 1873.

Mr. Brown became interested in the drug business as a young man and started working in a drug store in 1885. He started his own business in 1892 and operated his drug store in Logan for 57 years.

Mr. Brown was married to Emma A. Bowman in 1891. They made their home and raised their family in Logan. The children of this marriage were Joyce Elizabeth Brown, and Mrs. Ollie Williams, both of Kansas City, MO; Clifford and Bryan, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1909, three sisters, one brother and two half sisters. He is survived by his daughters, one son-in-law, other relatives and friends.

Since his retirement he has made his home in Kansas City with his daughters. Mr. Brown returned to Logan many times to visit his many friends. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge in Logan for over fifty years, having served in all of the offices of the lodge.

Tom Brown was a highly respected pioneer of Logan and will be missed by his family and many friends.
