The victims were identified Friday by the Linn County Sheriff's Department as the pilot, Walery "Larry" Moloschnikow, 27, of St Louis Park, Minn. , and passenger Johnny Ralph Barnhart, 24, of Burnsville, Minn. They were killed when the plane went down on the southwest edge of Cedar Rapids early Thursday.
Federal Aviation Administration officials Friday were scheduled to begin investigating the crash of the plane, which was registered to Air Freight Express of Minneapolis. It was enroute to Chicago.
The single-engine plane plowed into a soybean field, then struck a tree at the edge of the field. The craft was found Thursday afternoon after a day-long search hampered by foul weather.
