Leona B. Barnes was born June 8, 1910 in Flat Rock Community of Shannon County, Missouri to John and Isabel (Wells) Cooper. She passed away August 11, 1997 at St John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield, MO at the age of 87 years.
She was united in marriage on October 6, 1934 in West Plains, MO to Richard Bland Barnes. Richard preceded her in death in August 6, 1986.
Leona is also preceded in death by her parents, one son, one grandson, three brothers, and two sisters.
She is survived by two sons, Gary and his wife Linda, and Jack and his wife Judy Barnes, both of Birch Tree, MO; two stepsons, Verlon Barnes and his wife Claire of Mountain View, MO; Lester Barnes and his wife Betty of LaPorte, CO; one daughter Betty Jo Grip of Athens, GA and one step-daughter, Nettie Grace Gill of Cozad, NE; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, and several step grandchildren. Leona will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Thursday, August 14, 1997 at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Birch Tree with Rev. Calvin Jones Officiating. Interment was in the Barnes Cemetery under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home of Birch Tree.
