He married Wenona Abiah Williams on 8 Nov 1887 in Flint, Genesee, Michigan, she the granddaughter of one of the early Flint pioneers, Ephraim S. Williams.
Their children, all born in Pennsylvania, were:
Bessie Ray Bailey,
Julius A. Bailey Jr., and
Wenona Williams Bailey.
His wife died 2 months after the birth of daughter Wenona in 1892.
