The household included: his father, Arthur L Dutton, age 43, married at age 20, born in Florida to parents from Florida, employed in a mattress factory; his mother, Alice S, age 37, married at age 19, born in Ohio to a father from Ohio and a mother from Virginia; Arthur, age 13, born in Florida; his brother Warren, age 10, born in Florida; and his sister, Melba, age 5, born in Florida.

Arthur William Dutton, 87, passed away at Community Hospice of Northeast Florida on April 10, 2004. The son of the late Arthur Lamar Dutton and Alice Nunamaker Dutton, he was born December 13, 1916 and was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville.

In 1941, Mr. Dutton began a 35 year career with the Jacksonville Terminal Co., retiring from CSX in 1976. During his early life he was also a professional musician and performed for a number of years with local bands.

During WWII, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and continued this service later in his life, retiring from the Coast Guard in 2001. From 1977 to 1996, he served as a bailiff with the Jacksonville Sheriffâs Office, leaving that position on his 80th birthday.

Mr. Dutton was a member of Southside United Methodist Church, the Heritage Sunday School Class, American Legion Post 88, Brotherhood of Railway Signalmen, Jacksonville Police Council, and the Musiciansâ Association of Jacksonville.

Mr. Dutton is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Melva Boyle Dutton; his daughter, Suzann Estelle Dutton; a niece, Joanne Benton; a nephew, Randolph Price; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 13th, at Southside United Methodist Church with Dr. Wayne Wiatt and Dr. Monroe Hatch officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday (today) at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Avenue.
